About the Author
Brent Cantwell was born in Timaru, South Canterbury on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Canterbury in 1995 majoring in English Literature and History. After training to be a high school teacher, he moved to the United Kingdom where he spent five years teaching Drama and English in a London comprehensive. Always the travel diariest, he spent these years exploring and documenting the treasures of Europe, Africa and Asia.
On his return to the Southern Hemisphere, Brent settled in Wellington, New Zealand, where he and his partner Amy Clark had their first two children. After moving his family to Australia in 2011, first to Melbourne where their third child was born, then to Tamborine Mountain on the Gold Coast Hinterland, he began to seriously dedicate himself to writing poetry and short stories.
Brent Cantwell is currently teaching high school English on the Gold Coast and working towards his Masters of Creative Writing with Macquarie University. He has published poetry in a range of New Zealand and Australian literary journals including Australian Poetry Journal, Poetry NZ, Landfall, Takahe and Foam:e.
