tether

Poems from ‘tether’

Background

‘tether’ is my first collection of poetry published by Recent Work Press in October 2023. It explores how we are ‘tethered’ to our past, to each other and the unexplored distances of the world and beyond. These ideas make up the three parts of my collection.

Background

Written in 2014, this poem recalls a trip to Morocco in 2004. Set early in the morning in Jamaa el Fnar, the main square of Marakesh’s medina quarter, the poem enters the mind of a young Bedouin boy as he sweeps and dreams the day away.

Background

On the 14th February 1994, the space probe Voyager I looked back and took one last photo before leaving the solar system for interstellar space. The result was a now famous photo called ‘pale blue dot’ depicting our planet, everyone we know and love, fragile on a speck of dust. This poem, first published in ‘Poetry New Zealand/ Aotearoa’ Yearbook 2021, is my response to that iconic image.

Background

Written from a memory of playing softball when I was younger and too distracted for the high pressure world of junior league sport. This poem was first published in ‘Meniscus’ Vol 7 Issue 1 (2019).
