A debut collection of new poetry published by Recent Work Press

About Me

My name is Brent Cantwell and I am originally from Timaru on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. I now call Tamborine Mountain, in Queensland, home.

I have been writing for most of my life and recently decided to publish my work. In October 2023, it was a real privilege to have my debut collection of poetry published by Recent Work Press.

With ‘tether’ now gracing the shelves, I am thrilled to have my poetry in your hands. As an author, I aim to dig below the surface of a changing world.

Feature Poem

This week’s poem is from my debut collection ‘tether’. It was first published in ‘New Zealand based, Palmy-inspired’ Milly Magazine in 2018. It recalls a time when all I wanted to do was kick a ball around in the mud. When I was ‘ten years old’.

People somehow manage to find an invincible summer inside themselves. As for me, I only see and feel the breath of autumn everywhere, since when I was approximately 13 years old and I first read this poem in the middle of a Russian novel. The English translation is by read and I found it at camelsnose.wordpress.com
